Explore Ilocandia with AAP Travel’s Great Northern Escape
The Automobile Association Philippines (AAP) Travel officially launches its drive-tour caravans for 2019 with a four-day Ilocandia tour highlighting the exciting adventures, sumptuous Ilocano delicacies, and rich authentic culture that northern Luzon has to offer.
Staying true to the theme, “Wandering the Past, Exploring the North,” AAP Travel leaves no stone unturned when it comes to providing its 15th drive-tour participants the full Ilocandia experience. With a bustling schedule for the four-day caravan, the tour visits all iconic tourist sites of Ilocos Norte, Ilocos Sur, and La Union on August 21 to 24, 2019.
The drive-tour caravan is packed with culinary, heritage, and nature expeditions that dive into the region’s enduring architectural ancestry, pristine environmental attractions, famous museums, and tightly-knit Ilocano community.
The first day of the Ilocandia tour consists of warm-up activities for the exciting journey ahead. To ensure participants get to enjoy even the hours-long travel to the first destination, AAP Travel teamed up with Petron to come up with the AAP – Petron Amazing Race that consists of various games and challenges held at Petron branches in Lakeshore, Mexico, Pampanga and Petron TPLEX, Victoria, Tarlac.
Caravan participants get to travel back in time as they delve into well-preserved sights such as Ilocos Norte’s Cape Bojeador Lighthouse, Kapurpurawan Rock Formation, the historic Bangui Windmills, Patapat Viaduct, and Vigan’s picturesque Heritage Town.
The tour also visits each province’s well-known historic churches such as La Union’s Ma-Cho Temple, Ilocos Norte’s Laoag Cathedral where the infamous Sinking Bell Tower is found, Paoay Church that is dubbed as the country’s oldest church, Ilocos Sur’s Bantay Church Bell Tower, and one of UNESCO World Heritage sites La Asuncion de la Nuestra Señora Church.
AAP Travel lined up exciting activities for the participants with a 4x4 ride on the Paoay Sand Dunes, a pottery session where National Folk Artist awardee Fidel Antiporda Go demonstrates how the famed Pagburnayan jars are molded, and fruit-picking at one of the country’s biggest farms called the REFMAD Dragon Fruit Plantation of Ilocos Norte and Lomboy Grape Farm of La Union.
Aside from these, participants will also stop by Baluarte Resort and Mini-Zoo in Ilocos Sur where they can get up close to safari animals and hop on an exclusive tour of Governor Chavit Singson’s mansion and unique collections.
The attendees can relive history as they visit two of the country’s largest museums, the Malacañang of the North in Ilocos Norte and Ilocos Norte’s National Museum of the Philippines – Ilocos Complex.
